The idea here was to create a video artwork that defined the term “exploration” in a more visually abstract way. I also didn’t want it polished in any way. Exploration is about raw discovery, and I wanted to display this said raw discovery truthfully. I used two pieces of footage for the project, one taken from a time when me and a group of friends were playing light tag during the nighttime (upon which I stumbled upon which could’ve been a crack bed), and the other taken from a recent event in which me and a couple of other friends went into a sewer and continued forward until we couldn’t see the entrance from which we entered. These experiences are truthfully documented events and had the underlying similarity of being times when I have “explored”.
But then what about the original goal, that being to create a more abstract representation of exploration? My piece is about the term itself, it’s about audience exploration. I don’t want you to just explore what is happening with me, but I want you to guess what is happening on the screen and discover what is being explored. Exploration is about discovery, and I wanted to define the word in a visual way.
